Missing Scottish backpacker Jonathan Ansell has been found safe and well after two weeks.

The 27-year-old had contacted his mother in Scotland about two weeks ago from Melbourne, telling her he had lost his passport and mobile phone and had no money or a place to stay.

Judith Ansell travelled to Australia to search for her son after his phone call cut off suddenly.

She told reporters on Tuesday her son, who arrived on a work visa in April 2013, had been living rough.

Victoria Police said in a statement on Thursday that Mr Ansell had made contact with his family, and subsequently police, after a public appeal.
