Mitcham wins silver in diving

Australian diving star Matthew Mitcham and Grant Nel have won silver in the three-metre synchro event at a grand prix meeting in Madrid.

Matthew Mitcham has won a silver medal in his return to international diving.

Mitcham and Australian teammate Grant Nel finished second in the three-metre synchro event behind China on the last day of the FINA Grand Prix meeting in Madrid.

Earlier Mitcham finished fifth in the platform final, his gold-medal winning event at the 2008 Olympics.

Australian Rachel Bugg also won bronze in the platform final, with compatriot Melissa Wu fourth.

Bugg has returned to international competition after a brief post-London Olympics retirement.

The Australian star of the weekend was Perth teenager Maddison Keeney, who won gold in the three-metre springboard and then teamed with Victoria's Anabelle Smith to win gold in the three-metre synchro.

Keeney, 17, moved to Brisbane this year after finishing school in Perth and is considered one of Australia's best medal prospects for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
