Australia welcome back a host of players including allrounder Mitch Marsh for Monday's one-dayer against India but Mitchell Johnson is set to be held back until the final.

Captain George Bailey (suspension) and opener David Warner (rested) make their returns in the Australia Day clash at the SCG, with Marsh, paceman Josh Hazlewood and spinner Xavier Doherty also expected to play.

Marsh has yet to appear in the Tri-Series after suffering a hamstring injury in the second Test against India but gets his chance to impress ahead of next month's World Cup.

As one of four allrounders in Australia's World Cup squad he'll will want to prove his form to coach Darren Lehmann.

Marsh made a strong comeback in Sydney grade cricket on the weekend and Bailey said he would bowl as well as bat if he played against India.

Pace spearhead Johnson was a chance to make his first Tri-Series appearance after bowling in the SCG nets on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

But Bailey indicated he was not quite ready and would be back for the final at the WACA Ground next Sunday, with Australia already assured of a spot.

Following the Tri-Series, Australia play two warm-up matches ahead of their World Cup opener against England on February 14, giving Johnson ample time to be firing.

"I faced (Johnson) last night and that's never pleasant," Bailey said on Sunday.

"His pace was still pretty good and he's had another good hit out today. He's going reasonably well.

"I don't think he'll play tomorrow; he'll be building up for Perth."

Bailey said the selectors were still settling on a bowling line-up to take on India at the SCG.

While Australia have chopped and changed their team during the Tri-Series, Bailey said the fact that they were yet to lose boded well for their chances of claiming the World Cup on home soil.

"I still think one of our great strengths throughout the tournament is going to be our flexibility, which we've seen throughout this tournament ... to bring in (spinner Doherty) whenever appropriate and use different quicks at different stages of the game.

"I think the great strength in our squad will be the fact that all 15 in our squad will be able to play a role at some stage."
