Mitchell, Roughead in Hawks squad

Hawthorn and Collingwood have both left out several big-name players for Thursday's night's AFL pre-season match in Launceston.

Sam Mitchell, Jarryd Roughead and Josh Gibson are among 13 members of Hawthorn's 2014 premiership team named in the squad for Thursday night's opening AFL pre-season clash Collingwood in Launceston.

Big-name free agent James Frawley (ex-Melbourne) has also been named in the expanded Hawks' squad.

But coach Alastair Clarkson has held back the likes of skipper Luke Hodge, Cyril Rioli and Brian Lake until later in the pre-season.

Collingwood have also gone with an inexperienced squad for the NAB Challenge opener at Aurora Stadium.

Captain Scott Pendlebury, Dane Swan and Travis Cloke will not play against the Hawks.

The Magpies squad includes new faces Levi Greenwood, Travis Varcoe and Jack Crisp - all of whom were traded in from other clubs.
