The My Kitchen Rules grand final easily won the ratings on Tuesday but the viewer numbers were considerably down on the corresponding show last year.

There were 2.596 million viewers watching when SA Bree May and Jessica Liebich were crowned the reality show champions just before 10pm on Tuesday.

The same "winner announcement" segment in 2013, according to OzTam's overnight data, was watched by 2.952 million and it aired on a Sunday.

The Seven Network's decision to screen the MKR finale on Tuesday and not Sunday, and so late in the evening, may have been the reason the episode shed some 400,000 viewers in 12 months.

The MKR grand final segment was the second most watched show on Tuesday.

It drew 2.302 million viewers which was an improvement on last year when 2.154 million tuned in to the grand final.

But that grand final section of MKR in 2013 was directly up against the Nine Network's singing series The Voice which was watched 1.9 million viewers.

That most likely would have affected the audience numbers for the grand final but not the winner announcement because The Voice had ended by the time the MKR was naming the champions.

Seven has backed-up the end of My Kitchen Rules with the launch of season two of House Rules on Wednesday.

House Rules is by the creators of My Kitchen Rules and involves six couple putting their own homes up for renovation.
