Major League Baseball unveiled its 2014 schedule on Tuesday, confirming the World Series will be held in October instead of November.
As announced in June, the season will begin with an historic two-game set between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on March 22-23.
The regular season will end on September 28, allowing the World Series to be held in October.
The March games in Sydney will mark the first time a competitive Major League Baseball contest has been held in Australia, although it won't be the first time US baseball has showcased its product with season openers outside the United States and Canada.
Tokyo has hosted season-openers in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012, and MLB has opened seasons in Monterrey, Mexico, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
MLB's 2014 Stateside opener will come a week after the Australian games on Sunday, March 30, with the teams to be named later.
A total of 14 games will be played on Monday, March 31 - officially designated "Opening Day". They'll include an interleague contest between the Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers in Arlington.
Other match-ups on the first Monday feature the traditional opener in Cincinnati with the Cardinals as the guest, Atlanta at Milwaukee, Cleveland at Oakland and a battle between Colorado and Miami - the 1993 expansion clubs - in South Florida.
Nine games are on the docket for Tuesday, April 1, including the season-opener for the New York Yankees, who will play the Astros in Houston.
The 2014 All-Star Game is set for July 15 in Minneapolis.
The complete schedule, including start times, will be released in January.
