Britain's multi-Olympic and world champion Mo Farah won the 10,000m race at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet in Oregon on Friday in an ominous warning to his rivals ahead of the Rio Olympics.

Competing in his first outdoor track event since he won the 5000m-10,000m double at last year's world championships in Beijing, Farah held off Kenya's William Malel Sitonik to triumph in 26 minutes, 53.71 seconds - the third fastest time of his career.

Farah won the distance double at the 2012 London Olympics and will defend both titles in August in Rio. Unbeaten over 10,000m since 2011, the 33-year-old is likely to start as the strong favourite after kicking off his final preparations by winning Friday's race at Hayward Field.

"I am really happy where I am," Farah said. "I am in a lot better shape than I was in 2012.

"I want to defend my titles. I need to stay focused and keep training."

American Brittney Reese, the 2012 Olympic gold medallist in women's long jump, won her event with a best leap of 6.92m.

"Just to get that win, it sets me up good for my season and it shows that I'm in form and good shape going into Rio," Reese said.

Hellen Obiri, a former world indoor champion over 3000m, led a Kenyan sweep in the women's 5000m, winning in 14:32.02, while American Alysia Montano won the women's 800m in 2:00.78.

"I knew it was going to be a little cold, a little windy," Montano said. "So I knew it was going to be a little bit different, like in terms of just feeling it out and not going for a really quick time."

Joe Kovacs won the shot put with a throw of 22.13m, the best mark in the world this season, while Croatian Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic took out the women's discus and Poland's two-time world champion Pawel Fajdek claimed the men's hammer throw.
