His Modern Family character, Phil Dunphy, might have an allergic reaction to our national spread, but Ty Burrell says he can't get enough Vegemite.
"I ate a lot of Vegemite today," Burrell, who is filming a special Modern Family episode Down Under, says.
"I love Vegemite. I had it today on toast and I had probably 50 bites of it today ... we did a lot of takes of this particular scene."
The comedy actor and the large cast of Network Ten's hit TV show, which includes Sofia Vergara, Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, have been taking in the sights of Sydney since they arrived in Australia.
On Thursday, they walked a red carpet in Sydney and gave an insight into the Aussie episode.
"This episode is very, very clever. It sort of centres around Phil and his roots," O'Neill says.
Burrell elaborates that Phil finds out he has a special connection to Australia.
"His mum, who passed away last year, basically leaves him a bunch of information and one of them was that he was conceived in Australia and she has a list of things she wants him do to connect with the motherland, so to speak," he says.
"The country isn't as receptive to him as he wants it to be initially, but I think Aussies will like the story ultimately. It's pretty cool."
For some of the cast, including O'Neill, the trip marks their first visit Down Under.
"Well, it's far away," O'Neill explains.
"I have several good friends who live in Sydney and they've been after me for years, `Come down, come down'."
That list includes director Phillip Noyce, Crocodile Dundee director Peter Faiman and Russell Crowe.
The Crowe connection isn't surprising, considering O'Neill arrived at Sydney International Airport sporting a Rabbitohs cap.
"In fact, I think I'm going to go see a practice," O'Neill says.
"Tuesday, maybe. I'm off Tuesday."
The cast have already been spotted across Sydney, at Bondi Beach, the city centre and Manly. For some of them, the next stop is Hayman Island and the Great Barrier Reef, where the production will continue filming.
The episode will reach 125 million viewers across the globe when it's broadcast.
Companies including Qantas, which had a big hand in bringing the cast and creators out here, hope the show will lead to a boost in international travellers to our shores, similar to the impact of Ellen and Oprah's Australian specials.
* Season 5 of Modern Family begins airing on Network Ten on Monday, February 24.
