Moffatt out of world triathlon finale

Emma Moffatt has succumbed to various injuries and will not compete for Australia at this month's ITU world championships finale in Canada.

Former world champion triathlete Emma Moffatt has withdrawn from this month's world championships finale in Canada due to ongoing injury complications from a training mishap.

The 29-year-old finished a disappointing seventh at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, still suffering the after-effects of a fall during a training session in Germany.

That fall in Hamburg left the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist battling a bruised shin and ribs as well as enduring breathing problems.

Moffatt says she had reluctantly come to the conclusion she can't compete at her best at the world championships series final in Edmonton and has made the decision to pull out of Australia's team.

"I guess I just haven't been 100 per cent at any stage of my preparation for Glasgow and I couldn't put my finger on it, hoping I would come good," Moffatt said from her training base in Spain.

"It's disappointing to have to withdraw from any Australian team and I was hoping to get it all together for Edmonton, but things have not improved since Glasgow and I've had no alternative but to withdraw from the team."

Moffatt will now return home to have a break before preparing for her Australian summer campaign.

"I have committed to train through for the Rio Olympics - to make my third Olympics is still my major goal but I know I have to listen to my body at the moment if I'm going to have any chance of qualifying for 2016," she said.

Australia will now head to Edmonton with nine elite athletes including Emma Jackson, who finished fifth at the Commonwealth Games.

The elite men's and women's races will be held on August 31.
