The nephew of notorious gangland figure Tony Mokbel has escaped conviction after he was twice caught driving while suspended.
Antonios Mokbel, 20, briefly faced the Melbourne Magistrate's Court on Monday, pleading guilty to four charges including driving without a licence in Oak Park and Cobram in December last year.
Mokbel's lawyer Emanuele Nicolosi told the court his client had not had an easy life because of the name he shares with his infamous uncle.
Antonios is the son of Tony's brother Horty Mokbel.
"He is young and has never previously been in court," Mr Nicolosi said.
"He now understands that he needs to be very vigilant."
Magistrate Gregory Robinson said he would give Mokbel the "benefit of doubt" in believing that he was confused about the end date of his licence suspension.
Mokbel also pleaded guilty to driving without a seatbelt and failing to notify VicRoads of his change of address.
He was fined $1341.50 without conviction.
