Monaco held to 1-1 draw by Rennes

PARIS (Reuters) - Monaco were held to a 1-1 draw at Stade Rennais on Wednesday, giving Olympique de Marseille hope in the race for second place in Ligue 1.

Monaco's Rony Lopes cancelled out Joris Gnagnon’s first-half opener for Rennes in the rearranged fixture after Monaco played the League Cup final last Saturday.

The result left Monaco on 67 points from 31 games, five ahead of third-placed Marseille. Rennes are fifth on 46 points.

The hosts opened the scoring from close range in the 20th minute as Rennes dominated the early stages.

After a one-two between Fabinho and Radamel Falcao unsettled the Rennes defence, Lopes finished clinically to extend Monaco’s unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to 16 games.
