Brisbane co-captain Jed Adcock says the mood is good within the Lions playing group despite a turbulent off-season involving a boardroom scrap and several young players leaving the AFL club.
Adcock and the rest of the Lions' senior players hit the training track on Monday less than two days after arriving back in the country following a training camp in Arizona.
And the 28-year-old says the trip away has allowed the group to focus on next season after such a troublesome finish to the last campaign, which included the appointment of Justin Leppitsch as the club's new coach following Michael Voss's sacking.
"It's pretty upbeat. Obviously there was a fair bit happen in the off-season but I think from the player's point of view we didn't see a lot of that," Adcock said.
"A lot of it was played out in the media and didn't really affect players to a certain degree. Obviously the players leaving, the players had to address something there but I think the players really moved on and got on with the job at hand."
Billy Longer (St Kilda), Patrick Karnezis (Collingwood), Elliot Yeo (West Coast), Sam Docherty (Carlton) and Jared Polec (Port Adelaide), dubbed the "go-home five" in media reports, all left the Lions during this year's trade period.
Adcock says the quintet's reasons for leaving the club were varied and not something to do with the club's culture.
"We've talked a little bit here and there about it. We'll continue to sit down over the next little bit and discuss it," he said.
"I don't know if anyone really knows the exact reason why they did leave.
"We can just address what we've heard and areas where we think we can do better and we'll do that over the next week or two."
Adcock said the immediate challenge will be integrating the club's draftees James Aish, Darcy Gardiner, Daniel McStay, Lewis Taylor, Tom Cutler and Nick Robertson into the club before the team goes on its Christmas break.
"We've got a couple of functions lined up this week that we'll get around and include them in," Adcock said.
"I know those guys will move in with a few of those younger players as well and that's probably the easiest way to combine a group together, or gel a group together."
