Hawaii's Carissa Moore has bumped Australian Tyler Wright from the No.1 spot on the women's surfing world tour rankings after winning the US Open in California.
Moore fought off a late charge from local favourite Courtney Conlogue to win 16.00 points to 15.27 in peaky one-metre waves at the Huntington Beach final on Sunday.
It is the 20-year-old's third victory this year on the ASP women's world championship tour.
"To be honest I'm a little shocked right now because I thought Courtney won when the crowd erupted on that last wave," Moore said.
"I let her go and I had priority and it was a bad decision, but I'm stoked that it worked out in my favour.
"I was happy to be in the final and Courtney's in the title race and I had fun, but I was definitely nervous at the end of that heat."
The victory shot Moore into the overall leader's spot, sending Wright into second on the standings with just two events left on the tour.
Despite bowing out in the semi-finals at the hands of Conlogue (16.07 to 11.33), the 19-year-old Wright earned her career-best result at Huntington with an equal third finish.
She shared the spot with French woman Pauline Ado, who lost to Moore 14.70 to 10.23 in the second semi-final.
"I did the best I could with what I had out there and Courtney caught the best waves," Wright said.
"A third is the best result I've ever had here at the US Open and I'm happy with that."
Conlogue now sits at No.3 on the tour rankings, ahead of Australians Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmore.
The next tour event kicks off on September 24 on the south-west coast of France.
