Jetstar has cancelled all flights in and out of Bali on Thursday morning as volcanic ash spewing from the Mount Raung volcano continues to cause travel chaos.

Virgin Australia has also cancelled its early morning flights.

Both carriers said they would continue to monitor the situation and keep customers updated as new information becomes available.

"We will continue to closely monitor the movement of the ash cloud in the morning and update customers if continued conditions lead to further cancellations on Thursday afternoon," Jetstar said in a statement.

Customers are advised not to travel to airports for flights but to check their status on the airlines' websites.

The Mount Raung volcano has played havoc with flights since it began spewing corrosive, silica-based ash in early July.
