Campbell Newman is having a bit of trouble keeping secrets.

Officially at least, Queensland's government wants the first week of the state election campaign to be about talking up its achievements and then use next week to make pledges.

But just hours into the first day of the campaign, the excited premier can't stop dropping policy hints.

First he talked about linking the Gold Coast light rail with the heavy rail line, now he's raised the possibility of extra funding for police.

The government is campaigning heavily on its tough law and order program and "strong" crackdown on criminal bikie gangs.

Mr Newman says he'll be talking about specific commitments to the police force later in campaign.

But when asked if police could expect any more cash, he couldn't help himself.

"They can certainly expect us to make some commitments that will improve community policing in Queensland and continue the job of these important safety reforms," he told reporters in Broadbeach.

As for the government's tough anti-bikie laws, Mr Newman said they were working well and would be up for review in 2016.

On Wednesday afternoon Mr Newman flew into Maryborough for the next leg of his election campaign.
