More charges for terror raids man

A man who faced weapons charges following counter-terrorism raids in Melbourne earlier this month has been charged with 19 importation offences

A raft of new charges have been laid against a young man arrested in counter-terrorism raids in Melbourne that allegedly thwarted an Islamic State-inspired terror plot.

A 19-year-old Narre Warren man, who was already facing weapons charges from the April 18 raids, was charged on Thursday with a further 19 offences relating to Operation Rising, the joint counter terrorism team operation.

Two other men, Sevdet Ramdan Besim, 18, of Hallam, and Harun Causevic, 18, of Hampton Park, were also charged following the raids.

Police allege that Besim and Causevic had conspired to commit a terror attack at a Melbourne Anzac Day event.

The Narre Warren man is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon in relation to new importation charges.

Two men were released after the raids pending further investigations.

The matter was temporarily stood down when Mehran Azami refused to enter the court.

The court was told he had a history of mental illness.

Bail was opposed by prosecutors on the grounds Azami was a flight risk, and there was a risk of reoffending.
