More countries to use SmartGates

Queues to use the SmartGate system at Australian international airports are set to get longer with seven more countries eligible.

More overseas visitors will be able to use the fast-track electronic border clearance system at Australia's international airports.

Arrivals from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Korea, France and Sweden have been given the nod to use the SmartGates.

The immigration department says the number of eligible countries has been expanded from eight to 15.
