More mental help for Vic emergency workers

Victoria's emergency service workers have been promised better mental health support by both parties ahead of the state election.

Victoria's emergency workers will get access to better mental health support, with both major parties promising WorkCover changes.

The Andrews government on Wednesday announced if re-elected, it would introduce laws for provisional payments for mental health claims with no monetary cap and $12 million for clinicians and early intervention programs to support paramedics, police, protective services officers, firefighters and SES workers.

It follows an opposition announcement on Tuesday that if the Liberal-Nationals are elected in November, they will create immediate $10,000 payments to emergency workers for PTSD and depression treatment while WorkCover claims are being processed.
