More rural cops needed: Vic Police Assoc

Victorian Police Association secretary Ron Iddles wants to speak to the state's new top cop about increasing police numbers in rural and regional areas.

The police association says Victoria's new chief commissioner Graham Ashton should look first to increasing officer numbers in rural and regional areas.

Association secretary Ron Iddles said Victoria's counter-terrorism related "two up" policy - which says police cannot work alone except at one man stations - was one of a few "urgent matters which needs attention".

"That cannot be sustained unless there are further numbers," he said.
