More rural doctors needed: AMA

The AMA says greater investment must be made in increasing the number of doctors based in rural areas, particularly specialists.

The peak body representing doctors in Australia says greater investment must be made in increasing the number of doctors based in rural areas, particularly specialists.

This is despite a report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare finding the proportion of general practitioners in remote areas has increased.

President of the Australian Medical Association, Dr Steve Hambleton, told Naomi Selvaratnam the report doesn't show the true picture of medical services in remote areas.
