More than 300 people are estimated to have died trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Africa to Italy this week.
Among the dead are 29 people who allegedly died of hypothermia on the deck of an Italian coast guard boat hours after being pulled from the water.
The high number of deaths has reignited criticism of Italy's decision last year to end a full scale search and rescue mission.
