More rail marshals will be on duty at Sydney city train stations to herd commuters on and off carriages at peak times.
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian says the government's Fast Track Platforms program will start on an extra four platforms from Monday, covering 1000 additional train services.
The rail marshals will now operate on Central Station platforms 16 and 17 from 7am to 9am and platforms 18 and 19 from 4pm to 6pm.
At Town Hall, marshals will be on duty at platforms two and four between 4pm and 6pm.
Ms Berejiklian says the program is designed to help customers move on and off trains, "so they can travel quickly and safely to where they need to go, with less waiting".
"We are already seeing faster and easier boarding and alighting due to improved door management and more space on the platform," she said in a statement.
"In the long term, this program should help to improve punctuality and on-time running."
The staff increase comes in the lead-up to the launch of a new train timetable on October 20 that promises 1000 extra services.
"The new timetable makes the best possible use of our infrastructure and rolling stock and will deliver more services, new express services, and shorter travel times," Ms Berejiklian said.
