More voters now backing Labor: Essential

The latest Essential Research poll has found a further swing towards Labor and a mixed response as to whether the Turnbull government will last a full term.

Voters are unsure whether the Turnbull government will last the full three-year term as support continues to swing towards Labor two months after the federal election.

The weekly Essential Research poll found 52 per cent of voters backing Labor compared with 48 per cent for the coalition on a two-party preferred basis and after a 51-49 per cent result a week earlier - the July 2 election had favoured the government 50.4-49.6 per cent. .

The survey also found 35 per cent of respondents expecting the government will run the full term, but 38 per cent predicting an early election, while 27 per cent didn't know.
