The Kidman land sale to mining boss Gina Rinehart and a Chinese minority partner still needs official approval but Treasurer Scott Morrison is happy Australia's largest private landholding will be substantially in local hands.

The treasurer late last year knocked back a bid from a Chinese investor for the vast Kidman cattle empire on the grounds it wasn't in the national interest .

"I am pleased that an Australian has come forward, I'm very pleased ... I hope that others will follow a similar course in investing in Australian agricultural," Mr Morrison told Ray Hadley on Sydney's 2GB radio.
