Immigration Minister Scott Morrison is making his first visit to Nauru since the coalition formed government.

Mr Morrison is due to arrive on the Pacific Ocean island at 5pm local time (1600 AEDT) on Tuesday.

He will pay a courtesy visit to Nauru President Baron Waqa and talk to the management of the Australian-run asylum-seeker detention centre.

Mr Morrison is expected to visit three asylum seeker camps including the compound where families are held.

He has visited Nauru five times in the past three years, while in opposition.

There are 801 asylum seekers being held on Nauru.

Mr Morrison has sent a blunt message to asylum seekers arriving by boat, telling them they will not be getting what they came for.

"They will not be coming to Australia," he said last week when announcing his visit to Nauru.
