Social Services Minister Scott Morrison says the government's jobs package in the May 12 budget is aimed at getting young people into work, particularly those in vulnerable communities.

The former immigration minister said he had seen first hand how vulnerable some people were in migrant and refugee communities and how important it was for them to get a job rather go off on a "completely different tack".

"We do need to be proactive in social policy in these areas to not see ... some of them end on the path that takes them to Syria and Iraq," he told the Ten Network.
