Police have located the mother of a severely dehydrated baby who was discovered alone outside a Gold Coast church.

Police have located the mother of a baby girl who was discovered alone and severely dehydrated outside a Gold Coast church.

The girl, aged between 12 and 18 months, was found in Applecross Way at Elanora around 3.30pm on Friday.

Paramedics took the girl to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is understood her mother was located in the vicinity of where the girl was found, a police statement said.

Officers are currently determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
