Motorcyclist dies in West Melbourne

A 34-year-old motorcyclist has died after colliding with a truck in West Melbourne.

A motorcyclist has died in a collision with a truck in West Melbourne.

The 34-year-old man from Lakes Entrance died at the scene of the accident on Appleton Dock Road on Monday morning, police say.

It's believed the truck was doing a U-turn at the time.

The 59-year-old male truck driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

It is the second fatality on Victorian roads in the official Christmas and New Year road toll period.

* The national road toll period runs from 0001 December 23, 2014 until 2359 January 3, 2015, local times, in line with the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Board.
