Movie voiceover king Hal Douglas dies

Hal Douglas, the man whose voice can be heard on hundreds of Hollywood film trailers, has died at the age of 90.

Hollywood voiceover king Hal Douglas has died at the age of 90.

Douglas's deep voice featured in hundreds of movie trailers, television advertisements and documentaries.

His family confirmed on Thursday that Douglas died on March 7 at his horse farm at Lovettsville, Virginia.

Douglas was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010.

His rich, baritone voice graced famous films such as Philadelphia, Lethal Weapon, and Forrest Gump.

Douglas was among the top voice-over artists of his generation and worked on many Jerry Bruckheimer titles.

Although he kept a low profile, his life story was featured in the 2013 short film A Great Voice.

Douglas, who was born on January 12, 1924 in Stamford, Connecticut, was the son of Latvian and Russian emigres. He served in the US navy in World War II and later studied drama at the University of Miami.

Some of the lines Douglas spoke include this one from the Meet The Parents trailer in 2000: "Pam is the one Greg wants to marry. But before he can pop the question, he'll have to ... meet the parents."

For the preview of the 1997 film Con Air he intoned: "This summer, check your weapons, take your seat... and say your prayers."

He also uttered the tagline for the 1997 blockbuster Men In Black: "Protecting the earth from the scum of the universe."
