Penrith could be without captain Matt Moylan for the first month of the NRL season after the star fullback suffered a back injury.
Moylan experienced back soreness in last week's trial against February, and it has now been revealed the 24-year-old has stress fractures in his back.
While he remains a week-to-week prospect for Penrith, new coach Anthony Griffin is reportedly considering resting him from the first month of the season to give his body time to heal.
"He's probably in a little bit of doubt, but we'll be cautious with him, and make sure we look after him at this stage of the year," Griffin told News Corp Australia.
"If he's fit he'll play, we just have to make sure we make the right decision for him and the team."
"It's not a major issue. We'll worry about it more next week."
Moylan missed 13 games through a foot injury last season, but was named as the club's new captain in January.
Penrith kick off their season in Canberra on March 5.
