MP Geoff Shaw 'tummy eggs' comment goes viral

A Victorian MP with a unique grasp of biology has been getting a lot of attention online after his anti-abortion comments.

Victorian MP Geoff Shaw's anti-abortion comments go viral (AAP)

MP Geoff Shaw, speaking to a news outlet, said "in Australia we can't kill snake eggs but we are quite happy to kill an egg in the tummy and it should be the safest place for a baby to be."

His comments, comparing abortion to killing snake eggs, have angered women's groups and fueled internet mockery, spawning the hashtag #tummyeggs.

Mr Shaw is currently pushing for radical changes to abortion laws in Victoria including a ban of partial birth and gender selection terminations.
