A federal MP caught up in a scandal over expenses has been reappointed to the parliament's privileges committee which oversees ethical standards.
West Australian Liberal MP Don Randall came under scrutiny in October over a $5200 trip in 2012 with his wife to Cairns, where he had recently bought an investment property.
Mr Randall paid the money back despite insisting that he had acted within his parliamentary entitlements.
He argued that the main purpose of his trip had been to meet with then opposition whip Warren Entsch to discuss a range of issues.
The MP has declined to pay back funds for a trip he and his wife made to Melbourne for an AFL match, saying it was within entitlements and many other MPs had attended the match.

The parliament on Wednesday approved the post-election list of committee memberships.
Mr Randall was listed as a member of the privileges committee, of which he was a member in the previous parliament.
The committee deals with complaints about members' interests, code of conduct issues and oversees the official register of interests.
Leader of the House Christopher Pyne said Mr Randall was a "valued colleague".
"He's a very good friend, and I'm sure he'll do an excellent job," he told reporters in Canberra.
MPs elected on September 7 must lodge their members interests forms by December 10, which will be published on the parliament website.
