MP wants crack down on political junk mail

Independent MP Andrew Wilkie has introduced a bill that would force Australia Post to stop delivering unsolicited political mail to people who don't want it.

Australia Post could be forced to stop delivering unaddressed mail from politicians and political parties to people who don't want them.

Independent MP Andrew Wilkie on Monday introduced a private member's bill to close a loophole that means posties have to deliver political material to every single letterbox because it's a regarded as a community notice - even if there is a sign asking not to.

"There's simply no combination of words that you can put on your letterbox ... that will stop you from receiving material you don't want," he told parliament.
