MP wants foreign fighters stripped of vote

Liberal MP Andrew Nikolic says Australians who join terrorist organisations should be stripped of all citizenship rights.

Australians who fight with extremist organisations should be stripped of the right to vote and access to welfare, one of Tony Abbott's close allies believes.

Laws should be changed to strip dual nationals who join terrorist groups of their Australian citizenship, and to suspend the citizenship rights of those who were Australian-born, Tasmanian Liberal MP Andrew Nikolic writes in The Australian on Wednesday.

Mr Nikolic wants Labor to support his plans to tell people who he says have betrayed their obligations to Australia that "You are not one of us and are not welcome among us".
