Independent members of federal parliament believe there needs to be changes to how MPs can claim travel for their family members.
Labor frontbencher Tony Burke has admitted that flying his children business class to Uluru was "beyond community expectations", but says it's within the existing rules.
When asked whether Mr Burke should follow the lead of former Speaker Bronwyn Bishop and resign, independent MP Andrew Wilkie agreed the public would not accept taking your family to a tourist resort on the public tab.
"I think he did the right thing by acknowledging what he did was clearly wrong," Mr Wilkie told ABC TV.
Independent Senator Nick Xenophon, who will next week present a bill to reform the Parliamentary Entitlements Act, believes Mr Burke shouldn't go, but the rules on family travel need to change.
Clive Palmer believes family members shouldn't be able to travel on the taxpayer.
"If you want to bring your family, you should pay for them," he said.
