Recovering Newcastle five-eighth Jarrod Mullen has returned to training after foot injuries destroyed his 2015 NRL season.
Mullen managed only 10 matches and was forced to go under the knife in July for surgeons to work on a damaged toe.
"I was a bit worried in the off-season and did a couple of runs and it wasn't feeling that good," Mullen told the Knights' club website.
"The more running I do the more scar tissue I break off it and it's feeling really good."
The Knights are yet to confirm their pre-season fixtures, but given Mullen welcomes a new halves partner in Trent Hodkinson for 2016, any game-time the pair manage together would prove vital.
Hodkinson is also returning from a season-ending injury after he dislocated his wrist in August, and while he isn't expected to begin full training until the new year, he should be fit to play the Knights' season-opener in March.
"I've met him before and hung out with him so we all know each other," Mullen said. "And I've played with (new signing) Mickey Paea in the past too.
"It's good to have those boys at the club and Hodko (Hodkinson) will help my game out a hell of a lot and I'm looking to form a good partnership with him."
Meanwhile, club veteran Chris Houston has been told to look elsewhere according to Fairfax.
"Chris has had a conversation with Nathan, and it was all very honest and transparent and respectful," Knights chief executive Matt Gidley said.
"Chris is weighing up a number of options as we speak."
