Mum, daughter flee burning Melbourne home

A mother and daughter have fled their Melbourne home after the roof caught fire.

A mother and daughter have fled their suburban Melbourne townhouse as a fire took hold in the roof space.

The fire broke out about 8pm (AEST) on Wednesday in the home in Sunshine.

The pair were alerted by a fire alarm and simultaneous circuit box explosion.

It took firefighters about 25 minutes to control the fire and stop it spreading to an adjoining property.

It caused extensive damage to the top floor of the home and smoke and water damage throughout.
