Mum dies, daughters survive NSW crash

A car crash which killed a mother travelling with her three young daughters in NSW may have happened after the tyres lost traction, police say.

Three young girls have managed to free themselves from the wreckage of a car crash in NSW's Riverina region but were unable to save their mother.

Desperate for help, police say the girls, aged nine, 12 and 15, flagged down a passing motorist after climbing from the mangled vehicle but their 38-year-old mother later died in hospital.

The Nissan Pulsar left Moppity Road, southeast of Young, on Monday afternoon, hitting an embankment before rolling over.

A photo from the accident shows the car on its side and against a tree with the family's belongings scattered around it.

Acting Inspector Michael Madgwick said evidence from the crash scene suggested the car's rear tyres lost traction coming into the corner and the woman "over-corrected and went off the road".

"The car has collided with an embankment and rolled before coming to rest against a tree," he told News Corp Australia.

"She has been partially ejected and trapped under the car."

He said it didn't appear she was travelling over the 100km/h speed limit, but might have "taken the bend too fast".

The family-of-four had been staying at Young Caravan Park.

Emergency services managed to release the woman and took her and her daughters to Canberra Hospital, where she died some hours later.

The 12-year-old girl sustained a broken leg and shoulder while her sisters escaped with relatively minor injuries.
