The man accused of murdering five members of the Lin family in their Sydney home always said to "tell the truth", a female witness has told his trial.
The crown alleges Robert Xie was driven by intense bitterness and hatred when he crept into his brother-in-law's North Epping home in the early hours of July 18, 2009.
Once inside, it is alleged he murdered Min "Norman" Lin, 45, Mr Lin's wife, Yun "Lily" Li Lin, 44, and their sons Henry, 12, and Terry, nine, with a hammer-like weapon.
He is also alleged to have killed Lily's sister, Yun Bin "Irene" Lin, 39.
Xie, who has pleaded not guilty to the murders, is facing a third trial after two previous trials were cut short.
A female witness connected to the family, who can't be named, told his trial on Thursday that he had never "coached" her on what to say after the deaths.
"He always said just tell the truth as you know it," Xie's barrister Graham Turnbull SC put to her.
"Yes," she replied.
"It has been suggested you were being coached," Mr Turnbull said.
"I would say that is not the case. Both him and Kathy (his wife) always said to me, `Tell what you know and what the truth is'," she said.
The woman has previously told the jury Xie touched her inappropriately before the deaths and sexually abused her afterwards.
The crown says this was one of the motives Xie had in carrying out the brutal killings.
"I suggest to you that Robert Xie never sexually assaulted you in any way whatsoever," Mr Turnbull said.
"That is not correct," she said.
The trial continues.
