The victim of an alleged murder attempt linked to slain crime boss Carl Williams' stepdaughter thought he was going to die after a dispute ended in a shooting, a court has heard.

Serkan Kala, 22, said he phoned Tugay Afacan to "sort things out" after the pair had argued and threatened each other in the car park of gym in Melbourne's north last November.

Mr Kala wanted to smash Afacan's head during the dispute, but then phoned because the pair had been friends for 17 years, he told the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

"I called to sort stuff out, we both made threats to each other," Mr Kala told a committal hearing on Thursday.

Mr Kala, who gave evidence via videolink, said Afacan had threatened him first.

Afacan, 23, is alleged to have driven to an industrial street in Broadmeadows and shot Kala, while Danielle Stephens, 22, and her de factor partner Sanar Ghanim, 25, were in the car.

Stephens, who is currently on bail, is the daughter of Carl Williams' ex-wife Roberta Williams.

The court previously heard 22 shotgun pellets lodged in Mr Kala's face, chest, arms and groin as a result of the shooting.

Mr Kala told the court the gun had been directed at his head.

After being shot, he thought he was going to die.

"I asked them `can you please call an ambulance I think I'm going to die'," Mr Kala told the court, referring to by-standers.

Afacan, of Taylors Lakes, and Stephens and Ghanim, both of Lalor, have been charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and causing serious injury.

Ghanim is also charged with drugs and weapons offences.

The court had earlier heard Mr Kala had told police seeing the "rat" Afacan go to prison was more important to him than receiving victims of crime compensation.

"I couldn't give a f*** about the money, to be honest. I just want to see him go to prison, the rat," the court heard Mr Kala had told police.

The committal hearing continues.
