A young man has been charged with the murder of a talented football player who was stabbed outside a NSW Central Coast hotel.

Greg Gibbins had left The Beachcomber Hotel at Toukley around midnight on Easter Sunday when he went to a nearby late-night pizza shop.

The 28-year-old car spray painter, who was a hooker with the Wyong Roos Rugby League Club, was stabbed in the chest outside the eatery.

Mr Gibbins suffered a cardiac arrest and died in hospital.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in nearby Halekulani on Monday night and charged with murder.

He was refused bail and will appear in Wyong Local Court on Tuesday.

Another man, aged 25, also suffered stab wounds during the confrontation and is in hospital undergoing surgery.
