The devastated parents of a Melbourne man who murdered his son at cricket training have contacted the boy's mother.
Luke Batty was killed by his father Greg Anderson on a Tyabb oval on Wednesday.
Anderson's father Don Anderson told the Herald Sun he and his wife have been in contact with Luke's mother Rosie.
"It's a very touchy subject at the moment, as you can imagine," he told the paper's website.
"The wife and I and the family are greatly concerned."
Ms Batty visited the murder scene on Friday, reading the many tributes left to her son.
She thanked the public for their support as she looked at flowers and cards left in memory of the 11-year-old.
"It's just amazing," she told reporters.
"I'm so, so grateful, you could not get through this without people's love and the people who you don't even know and who I've never met.
"I have no idea but people tell me how touched everybody is."
Ms Batty was not critical of police efforts to stop her former husband.
"When someone who decides they're not going to turn up, they're not going to participate in the court process, the police can only do so much," she said.
"This is about understanding how desperate the situation of family violence is and you need to do something about it with everybody."
Mr Anderson, who had five outstanding warrants when he killed Luke, was fatally shot by police after the killing.
