Months after being released from prison for the brutal murder of a teenage girl, Terrence Leary tried to rape a woman at a Sydney bus stop, a court has heard.
The details of the attack were revealed on Monday after the 48-year-old pleaded guilty to several charges at Sydney's District Court, including inflicting bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse.
Leary's victim, a 30-year-old Thai woman, was listening to music on her way home after babysitting her boss's children in Hunters Hill in June 2013.
As she was walking in front of the bus stop in the exclusive North Shore suburb, court documents reveal she was grabbed around the neck by Leary and dragged.
She struggled and screamed for help but was punched to the ground.
While still trying to fight off Leary, she offered him her phone, bag and wallet.
But court documents state Leary ordered: "Take your pants off."
After he removed her jeans, the woman tried to calm him down by putting her left hand on his face. "It's OK, I know what you want, I will help you," she told Leary.
But he bit her finger.
A passer-by saw the assault and called police.
When they arrived, Leary was still on top of the woman and swung several times at the officers, who used capsicum spray to try to subdue him.
The attack came 10 months after Leary was granted parole over the 1990 murder of a 17-year-old girl in Kenthurst in Sydney's northwest.
Leary used a ladder to reach the teenager's bedroom window and removed a flyscreen with a hammer.
He then smashed the girl's skull with the hammer after she refused to have sex with him, leaving her with 40 injuries including a minimum of 12 blows to her head.
He served more than 22 years of his 24-year maximum and was granted parole after six attempts.
Leary will return to District Court for sentencing on October 2.
