Andy Murray will work with two-time women's Grand Slam winner Amelie Mauresmo for the four-week grass season starting next week.

Mauresmo, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006, had been mentioned in recent weeks as speculation increased over whom Murray would choose to replace Ivan Lendl.

The former great Lendl walked away from the Murray coaching job in March after helping Murray to US Open and Wimbledon titles and the 2012 London Olympic gold.

Murray, the world eight, is by far the biggest name male player to take on a woman as his coach.

"I'm excited by the possibilities of the new partnership and Amelie is someone I have always looked up to and admired," Murray said on his website on Sunday.

"She's faced adversity plenty of times in her career but was an amazing player and won major titles, including Wimbledon.

"I have a very strong coaching team already in place, but I think Amelie brings with her experience and tactical expertise and will push us all to improve."

Mauresmo said that while Murray might have been looking to add the woman's touch to his game, she was all about winning.

"Maybe he's looking for something different, about emotions and sensitive things. But all I'm interested in is to be able to help him in his goals," she said.

"For me it's a challenge. I want to take it."

The French Fed Cup captain said Murray contacted her several weeks ago in what she considered a surprise.

Murray lost on Friday in a Roland Garros semi-final against Nadal in three quick sets, then headed across the Channel to London, where he'll play as third seed at Queen's club from Monday.
