Department store chain Myer will close its shop in Brisbane's Brookside shopping centre as part of measures to turn the company around.

Chief executive Richard Umbers says company's new strategy is "designed to deliver a sharper and more focused offer, and improve productivity across the Myer business".

Although the lease is due to expire in September, Myer will continue to trade in the northwest Brisbane shopping centre through the Christmas and stocktake period to minimise disruption to staff and customers.

"We will support each impacted team (staff) member through a period of consultation to determine what opportunities may be available for ongoing employment," Mr Umbers said in a statement on Friday.

The Brookside store, in Mitchelton, is expected to stop trading at the end of January 2017.
