Myers sidelined for 12 weeks in AFL

Essendon's David Myers is among several players forced out with injuries after the opening two weeks of the AFL season.

Essendon midfielder David Myers needs shoulder surgery and will miss about three months of the AFL season.

While much of the injury focus on Tuesday was on Gary Ablett and his troublesome shoulder, several other clubs are also dealing with bad medical news.

Myers will undergo surgery on Wednesday after he clashed with Sydney's Kurt Tippett in round one.

"David will have a bone block and screws inserted into the shoulder, and we could expect to see him back playing as soon as 12 weeks," Bombers doctor Bruce Reid said in a club statement.

West Coast vice-captain Scott Selwood is also ruled out of Sunday's Western Derby against Fremantle because of an ankle injury.

The depleted Eagles will be without the midfielder for four-to-six weeks.

Fellow Eagles onballer Simon Tunbridge is facing 12 weeks out of action, also with an ankle injury.

While the Bombers will be without Myers for Saturday's clash with arch-rivals Carlton, the Blues will be without forward Troy Menzel.

He suffered a calf injury in last Friday night's big loss to the Eagles.

But Carlton are confident that star veteran Chris Judd (shoulder) will play against Essendon.

And there are doubts over star North Melbourne onballer Nick Dal Santo because of his hamstring injury.

Dal Santo was hurt during Sunday's win over Brisbane and he has seen a specialist.

He could be out of action for several weeks.
