Myles will be Titans NRL skipper: Henry

Neil Henry says there's no doubt Nate Myles will be the Gold Coast's skipper for the upcoming NRL campaign.

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry says there's no other candidate for the Titans' captaincy than representative forward Nate Myles.

Myles has been the front-runner for the captain's role ever since the NRL club dumped Greg Bird as co-captain in December for his public urination incident.

No formal announcement has been made but in Henry's eyes it's not up for debate who will lead the Titans in 2015.

"As far as I'm concerned, there's no official announcement, but the status quo stays," he said.

"Birdie is not co-captain any more so Nate Myles will be captaining the side."

Myles wasn't in Auckland last weekend for the Nines tournament, where the side was led by experienced back Will Zillman.

Zillman is however in a battle to retain his fullback starting spot from recruit Josh Hoffman, with David Mead and Kevin Gordon also trying to sneak into the No.1 jersey.

Henry said he's yet to make up his mind who will be his first-choice custodian but Zillman and Hoffman were the front-runners.

"They're the main two with Meady on the wing," he said.

"We'll probably look at that rotation during the trial against the Cowboys and make a decision after that."

The Titans begin their pre-season trials against the Warriors in Toowoomba on Saturday. Hoffman won't play in that match as he prepares for the NRL All Stars game the following weekend.

His Indigenous All-Stars teammate Bird doesn't appear likely to be able to play in the February 14 clash at CBUS Super Stadium.

Bird is recovering from a medial ligament injury suffered before Christmas and Henry said the NSW representative is a long way from proving his fitness and won't be risked unnecessarily.
