NAB confirms it will not fund Qld mine

Banking giant NAB says it "is not involved and has no plans to be involved" in any financing for the Carmichael coal mine.

NAB will not fund the controversial Carmichael coal mine slated for Queensland's Galilee Basin.

Environmentalists have opposed the $16 billion project and work has stalled after a Federal Court ruling that there had been a loophole in Environment Minister Greg Hunt's approval.

NAB would not confirm whether Indian mining giant Adani had asked it for cash but a spokesperson said environmental concerns were among criteria the lender looked at when deciding whether to fund projects.

The spokesperson said "NAB is not involved and has no plans to be involved in any financing for the Carmichael coal mine".
