Nasri knee injury sparks Man City fears

Manchester City is waiting to see how long French midfielder Samir Nasri will be sidelined after suffering a serious knee injury.

Samir Nasri could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining suspected knee ligament damage during Manchester City's 2-0 win at Newcastle United.

The French international midfielder was stretchered from the pitch, apparently in tears, in the 79th minute of Sunday's game after a knee-high foul by Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who was booked.

"It should have been a red card for the tackle by Yanga-Mbiwa on Samir Nasri," said City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

"Nasri has a serious injury with his knee. Maybe it's medial ligaments. We'll see tomorrow (Monday) what happens with him."

Pellegrini also revealed that Edin Dzeko, scorer of the opening goal, had sustained a calf injury during City's victory, which took them to the top of the Premier League table.
