Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe insists he still plans to re-sign with the Dockers, and he's backing coach Ross Lyon to lead the side out of the doldrums.
The Dockers are 0-2 following big losses to Geelong and Port Adelaide, with some fans already calling for Lyon to be sacked.
With the team in turmoil, some football greats like Garry Lyon predict Fyfe will leave the club at season's end in order to chase his premiership dream in Melbourne.
But the 25-year-old says he still remains committed to Fremantle and stated he would put pen to paper on a new deal later this season.
"I've stated my intentions are - and I see my future - at Freo, and I was always going to wait for a time during the year to sign the contract," Fyfe said.
"So wins and losses aren't going to have any effect on that.
"Now's the time for some really cool heads.
"The blowtorch is on me, and it's on Ross Lyon at the moment.
"But now's the time for some calm, some practical thinking and some strong leadership in working through these situations.
"We're 0-2, it's not the end of the world. We won't be pressured by external noise."
Fyfe said if his contract situation became too much of a distraction, he would quicken the process.
But for now he's concentrating on helping Fremantle climb off the bottom of the table.
The Dockers will face another stern test when they take on the Bulldogs at Domain Stadium on Saturday night.
Lyon is contracted until the end of 2020, but some people believe the veteran coach's heavy reliance on an effort-based, defensive game plan is now outdated.
Results in the past two seasons seem to back up that assertion, with the Dockers managing just four wins last year.
Fyfe said there was no silver bullet that would immediately fix the team's problems.
But he said he and the rest of the player group were confident in the game plan Lyon has come up with for this year.
"I'm really comfortable that the playing group is really united and fully behind Ross Lyon and our other assistant coaches," Fyfe said.
"There is a strong galvanising effect happening out of what's happening out of the club at the moment."
Lyon promised to wield the axe in the wake of Sunday's 89-point loss to Port Adelaide.
First-round draft pick Griffin Logue could make his debut, while Tom Sheridan, Harley Balic, Matt Taberner and Ethan Hughes are others in the selection mix.
